PLATE: Dinner to Fund a FALA Student Art Project

The Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy’s National Art Honor Society invites local art-lovers to a catered dinner to hear short presentations and vote for their favorite student-proposed art project. The winning project must have a significant, positive impact on the community and will receive funding through the proceeds of the event. Admission includes a handcrafted ceramic plate to keep, made by FALA students, artists Robin Cadigan and Jason Bohnert, and other local artists. NAHS will gladly accept donations from those unable to attend the event but who would like to sponsor a student’s attendance.

The event is called PLATE—Philanthropic Leadership Art as Transformative Education—and will be catered by Simply Delicious, with additional donations from Brandy’s, Pizza Furiosa, Wildflower Bakery, Chipotle and other local restaurants.

FALA students will present their project ideas and funding requests to guests, who will then vote on the proposal they find has the most potential to benefit the community. The winner will be awarded a $500-$1,000 grant from the proceeds of the event to execute the project.

“Our first PLATE event was a stunning success,” said FALA art educator Janeece Henes. “The winning proposal was to purchase portrait photography equipment which has since been used in the community to provide family portraits. I’m eager to see what our students propose to do this year.”

Prior to the dinner, all FALA students will be invited to participate in a free grant-writing workshop led by JT Tannous, executive director of the Flagstaff Cultural Partners. Tannous will critique and help hone students’ draft proposals.
