Night Skywriting Trio feat. Jane Ira Bloom

Jazz soprano saxophonist and composer Jane Ira Bloom’s Night Skywriting Trio (soprano sax, bass, and drums & elektro/acoustic percussion) will play space-inspired music in coordination with the NightVisions exhibition that month. Jane Ira Bloom has been steadfastly developing her unique voice on the soprano saxophone for over 30 years. She is a pioneer in the use of live electronics and movement in jazz, and was the first jazz musician to be a NASA commissioned artist. Included in the trio is innovative jazz bass virtuoso Mark Dresser and legendary jazz drummer Jerry Granelli.

In addition to a musical performance, Bloom will also participate in a pre-concert talk at 6:15pm about her experience as a NASA commissioned artist, a member of the NASA Art Team, and the use of source sounds and audio from space probe telemetry integrated into her musical compositions. The talk is open to all ticket holders.

The Night Skywriting Trio has performed site-specific concert performances collaborating with planetarium light shows at The Einstein Planetarium at the National Air & Space Museum in Washington DC, the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center at The Museum of Natural Histroy in NYC, and lastly the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
