The Natural History Hike explores Coconino County’s biodiversity. Being the second largest county in the contiguous United States, Coconino County has an enormous expanse of land that contains an abundance of diverse wildlife and landscapes, owing to its range of elevation from Humphrey’s Peak at 12,633 ft (the highest point in Arizona) to the depths of the Colorado River within Grand Canyon as it flows into Mohave County, roughly 10,000 ft lower. The Natural History Hike explores Coconino County’s biodiversity. Being the second largest county in the contiguous United States, Coconino County has an enormous expanse of land that contains an abundance of diverse wildlife and landscapes, owing to its range of elevation from Humphrey’s Peak at 12,633 ft (the highest point in Arizona) to the depths of the Colorado River within Grand Canyon as it flows into Mohave County, roughly 10,000 ft lower. This produces a landscape hosting an amazing breadth of life zones, each with their own combination of unique flora and fauna. Join us on a hike as we discover the landscapes found in the county, identify the plants and animals found in those lifezones, and look at non-indigenous species found in the region.
Hike will take place at the Pump House Wash in Kachina Village
Transportation is provided. Please bring a backpack with water, a snack, and any other items you feel appropriate for a short hike.
