Mountain Spelling Bee

The date is set for the Literacy Center’s 18th Annual Mountain Spelling Bee. Crazy, fun, vivacious, word-churning spelling teams are already forming and tables for dinner to this gala fundraising event are booking up.

This annual spring fundraiser features fabulous prizes, spirit awards, a sumptuous feast of a dinner and notable luminaries including the evening’s Emcee, Flagstaff City Council Member, Scott Overton.

Dinner reservations must be made by April 17, 2014. For all the information, including team and dinner registration details and information for spelling bee spectators who simply wish to Bee entertained by this lively spelling extravaganza, visit thinkliteracy.org.

The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Coconino County, the Literacy Center, is to increase the basic English language and literacy skills of teens and adults in order to improve the quality of personal, economic and community life for all. TLC’s services are delivered by professionally trained volunteers in the community and at the facility: The Literacy Center. Literacy Volunteers strive to be a resource for the study of adolescent and adult literacy learning.

“Proceeds from the Bee helps us and our amazing volunteer force eradicate illiteracy amongst adults in our community, serving over 300 adults each year, including the incarcerated and newly released,” said Carynn Davis, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of Coconino County.
