Six million years ago much of present-day Coconino County was a featureless plateau yet unshaped by the forces of nature. Since then, two geological features of the county have been formed: 1) the Grand Canyon; and, 2) the San Francisco Volcanic Field. This 2.5 hour hike explores the later while contextualizing nearby volcanic growth in light of changes to the overall Colorado Plateau region.
