Drink for a Cause

For those who are looking for a good excuse to enjoy themselves mid-week while keeping a clear conscience, “Drink for a Cause” has got you covered. Starting last than a year ago, this endeavor has already hosted nine events at various Flagstaff bars and restaurants while raising thousands of dollars for worthy local nonprofit organizations.

So far, venues have included the Toasted Owl, Root Public House, the McMillan, and Vino Loco, and the proceeds have supported such amazing organizations as the Flagstaff Initiative Against Trafficking, Best Life Ever, and Flag Shakes. These events are usually, but not always, on the third Tuesday of each month (designated “Locals Night”) and often feature bonus perks like live music, raffle prizes, and complementary appetizers, while the host business donates 20% of bar sales to the cause.

This program is the brainchild of Erin McDonald, who recently left her longtime position with Karma Sushi to pursue a career as a restaurant consultant with Peak Hospitality Solutions. “I’ve wanted to do this for many years and am excited that I now have enough time to devote to it,” says McDonald. “Showcasing cool restaurants and bars, many of which are locally-owned, on off-nights like Tuesday while making money for nonprofit groups that do so much for our community is truly a win-win.”

Up next, the “Drink for a Cause” will be held at the Lotus Lounge at Hotel Monte Vista starting at 5 p.m. on October 16 and will raise funds for the Over the Rainbow Butterfly Garden, which supports families who have children with special needs. Local trio the Vandevier Breaks will be performing.
