Many of these springs function as islands of habitat, supporting unique, endangered, and rare species. MNA Curator of Ecology Dr. Larry Stevens is the Director of the Springs Stewardship Institute, a global initiative to survey, rehabilitate, and steward spring systems. He has studied springs in the Grand Canyon for 20 years.
