In cooperation with Findlay Toyota, Coconino County residents enjoy FREE admission to Lowell Observatory all day long. In addition to the observatory’s regular tours, talks and telescope viewing, guests of all ages can enjoy the following special activities:

OmniGlobe Talks (25 min). See Mars or Pluto projected onto a 4-foot sphere as you learn about these iconic worlds.

“Canals of Mars” (1pm and 2pm) presents historical and modern insights on the Red Planet from Lowell and NASA.
“Resolving Pluto” (1:30pm and 2:30pm)presents the history of Pluto’s discovery at Lowell and the recent research from NASA’s New Horizons mission.

Fun Science Demonstrations (45 min)

The Sun (12pm). Learn about the sun and how it casts so much energy and light into space. See how a spectroscope is used to determine which elements make up the Sun.
The Moon (2pm).Learn how meteorite impacts have shaped the surface of the Moon, and see why gravity and air pressure there are so different from the Earth’s.
The Planets (4pm). See how different the planets are from each other. Guests will be able to build a marshmallow Mars rover and Alkaseltzer rocket to learn about space exploration.

Giant Bubbles (1pm and 4pm). Create enormous bubbles, and learn why they always end up round and rainbow-colored.

Solar Balloons (1pm and 4pm). See a solar balloon inflate and rise as the sun heats the air inside it.

Face Painting by Radiant Art (12-5pm)

Food Truck from White Eyes Fresh Fry Bread (12-5pm)
