May 28, 2019 marks 125 years since Percival Lowell stepped off the train in Flagstaff to establish Lowell Observatory. We have been delighted to present the awe and wonder of the night sky to the public ever since. Come celebrate with us under the dark skies of Mars Hill on June 6-8.

Carl Lampland, Pioneer Infrared Astronomer | 7:00 – 8:00pm
Join us for a special talk by Dr. Joseph Marcus. At his death in 1916, Percival Lowell left behind a trio of astronomers – Vesto M. Slipher, Earl C. Slipher, and Carl. O. Lampland – to carry forth his research legacy into the mid-20th century. In 1920, Lampland joined forces with the pioneering infrared physicist, William W. Coblentz, to adapt Coblentz’s stellar radiometers to the 40-inch reflector at Lowell Observatory.
