In six sessions guided by a facilitator with 20 years of NPR journalism and podcast production experience, you’ll find a clear voice for your podcast within a storytelling framework. Through listening sessions, discussions, and hands-on tutorials, you will finish the course with a constructed podcast episode. Participants will give and receive feedback and support in a safe creative environment.
1. Introduction to podcasting, pitching, and focus sentences
2. Booking guests/storytellers, outlining, writing for the ear
3. Interviewing
4. Elements of story and structure
5. Putting it all together and finding your voice
6. Listening and feedback session

About Laurel Morales: Laurel is currently producing her third podcast “2 Lives.” Prior to entering the podcast world she covered wildfires, drought, and other disasters as a public radio reporter for 20 years. She has won national awards for her reporting and writing including a national Edward R. Murrow award for her coverage of Arizona’s deadliest fire and a PRNDI award for her podcast “Earth + Bone.” She’s collaborated on several projects including the multi-award winning “Tracing the Migrant Journey” series. She can be heard on NPR, the Fronteras Desk, Code Switch, Here & Now, Science Friday, Marketplace, National Native News, and the BBC. She’s known for her inclusion of diverse voices, for crafting powerful stories, and for collaborating with a team to complete projects on time with humor, emotional intelligence, and constructive feedback.
