Begin at the Coconino Center for the Arts with a presentation on best practices for night shooting. We will discuss a range of topics including how to find a dark sky area and preparing for the shot, an overview of camera and lens settings, how to focus a lens in the dark and recommendations for framing a capture. We will discuss moon cycles and the procession of the milky ways position and how it will relate to your shots. There will be a demo on a typical night sky edit as well as a look at exposure blending and why it is important for night photography.
What you will need to bring:
DSLR or Mirrorless Camera that can capture in RAW format (no point and shoots)
Fully charged camera battery (I’d recommend a backup)
Wide angle lens of at least 24mm and an aperture of f2.8 or faster.
Memory card
Tripod
Headlamp that can be set to RED
If you do not have a tripod or headlamp, one can be rented for an additional fee
Post processing of your images is not included in this workshop although Abe will have a laptop on hand to demo certain types of editing if time allows.
Evening schedule:
530pm presentation on astrophotography basics and best practices (1 hour)
630pm break for dinner/coffee on your own
8:30pm arrive at location and setup
9pm begin shooting with Abe as a guide helping you get an interesting shot.
10pm end shooting
