Grand Canyon End to End

Presented by Arizona Trail Association at Cline Library Assembly Hall

6:00—7:30 pm:  Rich Rudow and Chris Atwood
Rich Rudow and Chris Atwood will kick off the evening, recounting their 57-day end-to-end traverse of the Grand Canyon below the rim. Find out what inspired the team to try this feat, key details of their chosen route, and stories of how they endured brutal weather, injuries, and sickness while climbing up and down hundreds of thousands of vertical feet to complete the route.

Intermission

8:00-9:30 pm: Kevin Fedarko
Despite the fact that the Grand Canyon is widely recognized and universally loved, it's surrounded on all sides by threats: mining activity, helicopter traffic, and massive development schemes. In order to explore this paradox, author Kevin Fedarko decided to do something drastic: to complete a mega-transect through the heart of the canyon by walking from Lees Ferry to Grand Wash Cliffs. Setting off in the fall of 2015, he embarked on what turned into an epic, illuminating, blister-inducing adventure of nearly 700 miles that will be featured in the September issue of National Geographic. He got a lot more than he bargained for.
