Merveilles: A Night of African Drum and Dance

Presented by Center for Indigenous Music and Culture at Prochnow Auditorium

Fifteen Master drummers and dancers from Zimbabwe, Guinea, Ghana, and DR Congo take the stage August 6th in a spellbinding performance sharing the music and dance from the west and southern regions of Africa in an unforgettable performance. Led by Master drummer Fara Tolno from Guinea, West Africa who began playing djembe at age nine, and has traveled extensively performing and teaching both drumming and dance. For nine years Fara held the honorable position as the lead drummer for Les Merveilles de Guinea (The Wonders of Guinea) under the tutelage of West Africa’s most influential director and choreographer, Kemoko Sano. Fara is a keeper of the history, the music, and the dance in his culture. He holds a vision to build a school of Music, Dance and Education in his home of Guinea, West Africa.
