Portland Cello Project in Concert

Presented by Greenhouse Productions at Coconino Center for the Arts

The Portland Cello Project will mix genres, blur musical lines, and perform a unique concert with Alialujah Choir on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Coconino Center for the Arts.

Since the group's inception in late 2007, Portland Cello Project (or, PCP, as their fans affectionately call them), has wowed audiences all over the country with extravagant performances wherever they go.

No two shows are alike, with a repertoire now numbering over 900 pieces of music you wouldn't normally hear coming out of a cello. Cello Project's stage setup ranges from the very simple (4-6 cellos), to the all out epic (which has included 12 cellos playing with full choirs, winds, horns, and numerous percussion players). The group's repertoire contains a wide variety of music, from classical pieces and movie themes, to jazz standards, to pop music covers and hip-hop. The group tries to perform an entirely new program on every series of performances. Almost all of the music performed by The Portland Cello Project is arranged by members of the group.

The group's goals are "to bring the cello to places you wouldn't normally hear it, to play music on the cello you wouldn't normally hear played on the instrument, and to build bridges across all musical communities by bringing a diverse assortment of musical collaborators on stage with them."
