Demon Mineral: screening and discussion

Demon Mineral: screening and discussion

Presented by Northern Arizona University, College of Arts and Letters at Liberal Arts Building, Rm. 120

The film, shot over the course of four years with Diné community oversight and guidance, examines the legacy of uranium extraction from the perspectives of both the landscape and its inhabitants. Framed entirely by indigenous voices and testimonies, Demon Mineral is about an active, multigenerational process of reclamation. The Diné have a concept in their unwritten rules for the living world: there is a demon who lives in the earth. He is happy there and will bother no-one unless disturbed. Uranium, for millions of years to come, is perhaps this demon made real.
