Prehistoric Friday Fun

Presented by Arizona Natural History Association at Elden Pueblo Heritage Site

May 26, Native Garden - 10AM - 2PM
Stop by anytime between 10:00 AM & 2:00 PM and be part of planting a native garden at Elden Pueblo.  Kids and adults will be able to help us prepare the soil and plant the seeds!  Anyone who comes to help will also have the opportunity to practice their aim at targets using rabbit sticks and the atl-atl - ancient weapons that are sometimes still used today to help control little animal intruders that come to the garden.

June 09 - Native Weaving - 10 AM - 02:00 PM - Kids & Adults - $5.00 donation requested per person.  Come anytime between 10 AM and 2:00 PM. Enjoy and learn about weaving in the Southwest through a short PowerPoint program and receive instructions and materials to make your own coasters.

June 30 - Jewelry Making - 10AM - 2:00 PM - $5.00 donation requested per person.  Kids & Adults!  Stop by Elden Pueblo anytime between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM for an overview of native jewelry making and a short history of materials and methods.  We will be making and decorating our own designs for a necklace or bracelet you can wear home!

July 07 - Rock Art & Petroglyphs - 10AM - 2:00PM.  Kids and Adults!  $5.00 donation requested per person.  Come anytime between 10AM and 2:00 PM and learn about ancient designs found pecked into the rocks or painted on cliff sides in the area.  You can bring a rock or use one of ours to create and paint your own native motif.

July 21 - Working with Clay - 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. $5.00 donation requested per person.  Kids & Adults!  Stop by Elden Pueblo and try your hand at making a clay owl figurine.  We will provide a short overview of ancient pottery types found in the area and provide instructions on making and decorating a clay owl.

August 04 - Native cooking - 10:00 AM - 02:00 PM. Kids and adults! $5.00 donation per person.  Today we’ll be providing and overview of native foods and cooking and we’ll be grinding corn using a mano & metate.  We’ll use some previously ground blue corn to make corn cakes you can enjoy with  prickly pear jelly!  We’ll also send you home with some recipes.
