An Evening of Folk & Old-Timey Music with Bill Burke

An Evening of Folk & Old-Timey Music with Bill Burke

Presented by Flagstaff Folk Project at Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation

Bill Burke is a well-loved, and long-time resident of Flagstaff, Arizona. He has been crafting exquisite custom stringed instruments for more than 40 years. He likes working with clients who are seeking something a little different and a step up from the usual instrument fare so prevalent in today’s marketplace. The first instrument he built was a hammered dulcimer, when he was in graduate school studying social anthropology. As a luthier of excellent musical instruments, Bill's careful work exhibits the traditional values shared by master crafters throughout history. Today, his instruments are highly sought after by discriminating musicians across America.

Bill has played and loved old-time music for many years. Throughout his life he has shared his music with others, including with noted national musicians. He has performed at numerous live concerts, on radio programs, including NPR stations, and on television. His passion for old-time music is contagious.

Besides making them, Bill plays a number of instruments unusually well. Among those he has mastered are guitar, banjo, mandolin, and mandola. Bill feels that playing folk music leads to the listener wanting to participate in some way, either by clapping their hands, tapping their toes or singing along. No matter which participating form they choose, Bill feels that joining in is the most important aspect of Old-Time music.

Join Bill for a fun-filled, Old-Timey Folk Music evening as he plays a variety of pieces on instruments he has made himself.
