Coconino Community College “Comet Talks” are Free and Open to the Public!
On a cool November afternoon in 1912, two football teams squared off on the parade grounds at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. One team consisted of a squad of West Point cadets led by their star linebacker (and future president) Dwight Eisenhower. The other team -- a squad of Native American athletes hailing from Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania -- was led by the incomparable Jim Thorpe, then widely regarded as the greatest athlete in the world. What happened that day would become the stuff of legend. Presented by Dr. Matthew Hernando.
