Learn beginning hand quilting and machine piecing techniques, and explore relationships between fabric and stitches, as you make a project you can hold in your hands. You'll leave class with at least one little mug rug or potholder that you quilted yourself! These make wonderful keepsakes or gifts. You'll also leave with the fundamental skills you need to start making bigger quilted projects. No quilting experience necessary.

Familiarity with a sewing machine is helpful, but not required. All materials included, so you can use our stash of fabric scraps, batting and threads. You can also bring any special fabrics you want to incorporate. Sewing machines are provided. Feel free to bring your own machine as well.

This class is taught by Patty Kohany. Patty has been sewing since she was in 5th grade. For her Masters Thesis project at NAU, Patty helped communities affected by the Rodeo-Chediski Fire to tell their stories through quilts. She also has led quilting projects for kids in Flagstaff schools. No matter their age or experience, she works to help her students connect to their innate creativity and find healing and community through stitching.

This is an intergenerational workshop! Youth age 10+ may attend with an adult. Stitchers age 16+ may attend on their own. Please register each participant, so we know how many are coming!
