Photographing Flagstaff’s Dark Skies: Astrophotography Basics & Insights

Welcome to exploring and photographing our amazing dark skies! This hands-on course will teach the basics of astrophotography in a two-part, one evening session. From the first part of our course you will learn how to use the settings on your camera, the impact of different camera settings, foreground composition, site scouting, apps & online resources, different astrophotography approaches, and how you can post-process your photos. In the second part of our course, we will head out to a local Flagstaff dark sky spot to apply what you learned including photographing the core of the Milky Way Galaxy!
NECESSARY EQUIPMENT:

DSLR Camera (Basic/entry-level cameras with interchangeable lenses are completely acceptable. Please play with your manual mode before our course including changing shutter speed, setting the FStop, and adjusting your ISO.)
Lenses (a lower F-Stop is more ideal)
Tripod
Headlamp (please with a red light if possible)

Suggested (but not necessary) Equipment:

IR Remote Release or Intervalometer
Extra Camera Battery
Large Memory Card
Comfortable & Sturdy Shoes
Clothing Layers
