Can We Understand Genocide without Gender? Insights from the Armenian Genocide

Presented by Northern Arizona University, College of Arts and Letters at Northern Arizona University, Liberal Arts Building 18 Room 120

Genocidal strategies included the separation of Armenian men and women, the removal of children, prevention of reproduction and births, and the abductions of Armenian children and women. The talk will also address Armenian responses after 1915 to the gendered and age-conscious orchestration of the genocide. Our guest speaker, Dr. Lerna Ekmekçioğlu, is the McMillan-Stewart Associate Professor of History at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
