Start your textile repair journey in this 3-session course beginning on May 13th!
Hand-stitched mending can be a gateway to creative expression, as well as a way to care for our textiles, the people we love, and our planet.
In this online workshop we'll build skills for useful and beautiful stitching from simple to invisible to decorative. We'll try out hand-sewing techniques including darning, boro-style patchwork, and duplicate stitch for knits. We'll investigate the structure of woven and knitted fabrics, and explore the meaning of stitching and mending in the modern world. We'll learn together over three sessions on Zoom, with time in between to practice. Class recordings with demonstrations will be available to students to review between classes and after the class is over. Everyone is welcome in this course, from beginners who have never sewn a stitch before to fiber artists looking for ways to extend the life of their handmade garments.
The materials for this class are flexible, and hopefully you can use things you already have, or that are easy to find.
Supplies you will need: -A few items you want to mend (these can be clothing, household textiles, or anything made of fabric)
-Hand-sewing needles, thread/yarn, and scissors (you will receive an email with specific suggestions)
-A laptop or tablet with a reliable internet connection.
Tuition is $75 for this three-session course.
