The Sonnet Man– Sonnet Writing Workshop!

Presented by Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival at Online/Virtual Space

Devon Glover is a teacher, rapper, poet, playwright, and actor from Brooklyn, New York. He performs Shakespeare's Sonnets through Hip-Hop as The Sonnet Man in schools and theatres worldwide. Devon has appeared on NBC, MSNBC, BBC, and at conferences and Shakespeare Festivals worldwide, including Stratford, Ontario, and Stratford-upon-Avon. He has taught with Stratford Shakespeare, Passion in Practice, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, and Southern Shakespeare. Devon has written adaptations of Shakespeare for various theatre companies. In the spring of 2019, Devon was commissioned to write a Hip-Hop adaptation of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night (Lyrica).

The Sonnet Man performance/ Intro to The Sonnet Man (July 16 @ 7 p.m. on Facebook Live)

The Sonnet Man Sonnet Writing Workshop, Part 1  (July 18 @ 11 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. via ZOOM)

Students will meet The Sonnet Man, and discuss the process of writing an Elizabethan-style sonnet, as well as iambic pentameter, couplets, and quatrains. Participants will be introduced to a project* that will be adapted by the group.

*For the project, attendees will create their own sonnet, to be performed at an outside location in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The Sonnet Man Sonnet Writing Workshop, Part 2 (July 25 @ 11 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. via ZOOM)

Continuation of the first workshop where attendees will begin sharing their pieces for critique. Musical compositions/instrumentals created by The Sonnet Man will be available to students for use.
