Join us for an evening of music featuring professor, author, and guitarist, Max Katz alongside flagstaff locals.
Guitarist and sitarist Max Katz is an Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology at the College of William and Mary. His book, Lineage of Loss: Counternarratives of North Indian Music (Wesleyan University Press, 2017), draws on a decade of ethnographic and archival research and years of musical apprenticeship to propound a critical re-reading of modern North Indian music history. He is a student of the Khalifa (steward/leader) of the Lucknow-Shahjahanpur Gharana (lineage), Ustad Irfan Khan. As a jazz guitarist, he studied under the legendary Ted Greene. He has performed in a variety of musical settings and venues and will be joined in Flagstaff by long-time friend and collaborator Rob Wallace on drums, local bass wunderkind Dylan Holly, and alto saxophone marvel Andy Grieder.
Admission is $5 at the door
