The Overdose Epidemic & Advocacy

The Overdose Epidemic & Advocacy

Presented by Sonoran Prevention Works at Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library

Arizona had 1,375 suspected opioid overdose deaths in 2018, a 74% increase from the 790 opioid related deaths reported in 2016, according to Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). The overdose epidemic is not ending, it is changing. Politicians, law enforcement, and health officials are increasingly looking to public health and harm reduction strategies to address this crisis as traditional punitive measures are not working.

On June 27th come learn about the changing landscape of the overdose epidemic, the Harm Reduction approach and practices, as well as the policies being put in place in Arizona and how you can advocate for health in your community! Hosted by Sonoran Prevention Works the workshop will overview:

- The current state of overdose in Arizona

- An introduction to Harm Reduction

- Good Samaritan Laws

- Syringe Service Programs

- A framework to advocate for public health approaches to drug addiction in your community.
