An overview of the classic buddhist text, The Four Foundations of Mindfulness
The Satipatthana, often translated as “The Four Foundations of Mindfulness” is a classic Buddhist text claiming to be “the only way for the purification of beings, for the overcoming of sorrow and lamentation, for the destruction of suffering and grief, for reaching the right path, for the attainment of Nirvana.” The text contains four general areas of experience in which to learn mindfulness, including 53 different meditation techniques.
In this retreat we will take an overview of the text and set a context for our year-long study series, and will of course learn and practice a couple of meditation techniques taught in this passage.
You do not need to participate in the study series to benefit from this retreat.
The day will consist of sitting and walking meditation, a talk, meditation instruction, and time for discussion. This retreat is suitable for both new and experienced practitioners and will be led by local teacher Pez Owen, who will be available throughout the day for private discussion.
The event will take place in a private home in Flagstaff. The specific location will be provided to those who register.
If you have not attended a meditation retreat before, you are encouraged to contact us so that we can let you know what to expect.
FREE, though donations will be accepted.
