The final “Drink for a Cause” event of 2018 will feature a truly one-of-a-kind performance that will get even the most cynical bar-hoppers in the mood for the holidays. Shawn Dennehy, the mastermind of local bluegrass group Lucky Lenny, is organizing a “hoot night” featuring several of his pals from the local folk scene who will perform original and classic holiday songs, in addition to other material.

Drink for a Cause founder Erin McDonald explains the premise of these monthly events that began early this year. “Basically, the idea is to give a good reason for people to check out a local bar or restaurant on an off-night when they generally wouldn’t go out. We organize raffles with donated items and feature live music, and the business does its part by giving a portion of their profits to a charity.” So far, venues have included the Toasted Owl, Root Public House, the McMillan, Lotus Lounge, and Vino Loco, and the funds raised have gone to such organizations as the Over the Rainbow Butterfly Garden, the Flagstaff Initiative Against Trafficking, Best Life Ever, Flag Shakes, and the Shadows Foundation. Musical artists who have donated their time and talents to entertain the guests so far have included Marcos Ayala, the Vandevier Breaks, and the Sundowners.
