Juneteenth is the nation wide celebration commemmorating the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865. Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and the enslaved were now free. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation! The Coconino County African American Advisory Council is hosting a free community celebration for all ages. There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers, music, information booths, a bounce house, balloon twists and free health screenings.
