Smitten by Stone: How We Came to Love Grand Canyon

Smitten by Stone: How We Came to Love Grand Canyon

Presented by Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library at Downtown Flagstaff Public Library

First seen by Europeans in 1540, and not comprehended easily, the canyon was viewed as an obstacle to travel or even as useless throughout 320 years of exploratory history. None of these early visitors ever returned a second time. However, when the first geologist saw it in 1857, he issued a siren call that it was something quite special on our planet. Presented by Geologist Wayne Ranney, author of Carving Grand Canyon at the Downtown Library.
