Come experience how Geologists announced to the world that the Grand Canyon was a place to be revered even when everyone viewed it as an opposite.
First seen by Europeans in 1540, and not comprehended easily, the canyon was viewed as an obstacle to travel or even as useless throughout 320 years of exploratory history. None of these early visitors ever returned a second time. However, when the first geologist saw it in 1857, he issued a siren call that it was something quite special on our planet. Presented by Geologist Wayne Ranney, author of Carving Grand Canyon at the Downtown Library.
