NAU’s Summer Seminar Series is a weekly lecture series of various topics presented by faculty members from NAU, ASU, and UA.
Tom Miller, a Professor of English and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at UA is presenting “Why Are Liberals So Narrow-Minded?“.
Research in social psychology has shown that liberals tend to consider questions about individual rights when presented with moral conundrums in laboratory tests, while conservatives respond with broader moral frameworks that include honor, sanctity, and duty. Such differences in interpretive frameworks are important to consider in assessing how politicians appeal to our values, and how conservative and liberal frameworks have evolved over the course of our lives.
