The Mandaeans: A Search for Religious Freedom and Survival

A Conversation with Shahram Ebadfarzadeh

Refugee from Iran and Representative of the Mandaean Community

Introduced and moderated by Religious Studies professors Jennifer Hunter and Jason BeDuhn.

Mandaeans are an ethnic religious minority, whose religious practice centers on baptism in running water and whose prophets range from Adam to John the Baptist. Distinct from Jews, Christians, and Muslims, they have called Iraq and Iran their home for nearly two-thousand years, but religious persecution and violence have caused them to flee in growing numbers.

Learn about a little understood religious minority.
