Student Author Reading - Kirsten Bublitz

Presented by Northern Arizona University Bookstore at Northern Arizona University Bookstore

There are two places that Kirsten Bublitz never stops dreaming about: Mackinac Island, Michigan, and Disneyland. Mackinac stole her heart ten years ago, when she visited the magical island for the first time, and Disneyland is her second home. The Flagstaff native is a sophomore at NAU, studying English with an emphasis in creative writing. When she’s not at home—working on her next novel, or writing a post for her Disney- and religious-based blog, “Off to Neverland”—Kirsten spends her time at Holy Trinity Newman Center, her favorite place in Flagstaff. Safe to Shore is her second book and Kirsten’s first work of fiction.

In Safe to Shore, Mila De Luca has followed the same routine for the past four years: studying for classes, waitressing at her father's Italian bistro, photographing noteworthy Lake Huron sunsets, and trying to forget Westin Pierce. Upon entering her senior year of high school, Mila is tired of living in the shadows. She wants to make up for all the days she spent working for her father and all the nights she spent wandering the walking paths of her lakeside home, Mackinac Island. Through one courageous move, Mila enters the high school world she never experienced, amending her relationship with Westin and introducing her to people that would change her life—including fun-loving island native, Carson Whelan. Carson lives life without a care; he is the complete opposite of Mila. The two become quick friends, making Mila’s senior year one to remember. She builds new relationships, discovers the calming truth of the Lord God, and uncovers surprises about who she is, where she came from, and where she'll go next.

Thursday, November 16, from noon until 2:00 pm, NAU Bookstore will host an author event for Kirsten Bublitz, called “Holiday Reading.” Just in time for the Thanksgiving break, you can get your own signed copy of Safe to Shore and meet this up-and-coming young adult author.
