Horizon Concert Series: Jeffrey Swann

200th Anniversary of Richard Wagner’s birth featuring the loving Wesendonck Lieder.

Jeffrey Swann enjoys an international performing career which has taken him throughout the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. His large and varied repertoire includes more than sixty concertos as well as solo works ranging from Bach to Boulez.

A native of northern Arizona, Jeffrey Swann studied with Alexander Uninsky at Southern Methodist University and with Beveridge Webster and Adele Marcus at The Juilliard School, where he received his B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. degrees. His most recent release features works for piano and orchestra by Chopin with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano. Since 2007, Jeffrey Swann has been Artistic Director of the Dino Ciani Festival & Academy in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy; since 2008 the Adel Artist-in-Residence at Northern Arizona University; since 2010 Professor of Piano at New York University; and since 2012 Artistic Director of the Scuola Normale Concert Series in Pisa.

Soprano Deborah Raymond has sung extensively in Europe. A graduate of the University of Iowa, she made her critically acclaimed debut in the title role of Richard Strauss’s Salome at Semper Opera in Dresden/Germany in Joachim Herz’s production which was televised throughout Europe. Other roles performed include Marie in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck, Tatiana in Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (in German and in Russian), Gerhilde in Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre, and Donna Elvira in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Raymond is Associate Professor of Voice at NAU where she has taught since 2001. She performs regularly on faculty chamber concerts, with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and NAU Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Music Sedona.

For six years, the NAU School of Music’s Horizons Concert Series has been providing global exploration and deeper musical experiences for the NAU and Flagstaff Community. The Global Artist-in-Residence program brings international musicians to the Northern Arizona University Campus twice a year for one-to-two-week residencies with activities across campus and the local community.
