A History of Hopi Silver Overlay, 7:00 p.m.
Ed Kabotie, Educator, Artist, and Musician
Join us as we kick-off our 85th year, MNA Artist-in-Residence. Ed Kabotie (Tewa/Hopi) will describe the history and development of Hopi overlay jewelry. The talk will examine both his family's and the Museum of Northern Arizona's roles in introducing the technique to Hopi. Examples of symbolism, hallmarks, and an overview of the overlay process will be included in the discussion, as well as a song or two from Mr. Kabotie. Come early for birthday cake!
