Hojarasca in Concert

Hojarasca in Concert

at Coconino Center for the Arts

Hojarasca’s concert on Heritage Square might have been rained out, but it won't stop them from providing world class global music for Flagstaff! Don't miss their amazing contemporary Andean flavor of music in concert this Wednesday, July 24, at 7:30pm. The concert is free to the public and will take place in the indoor acoustic amphitheater at the Coconino Center for the Arts.

“Hojarasca” creates contemporary music on traditional instruments built and crafted by Director and Composer Lucas Rodas. The three-piece band switches between flutes, drum, charango, guitars, percussion and song to evoke and evolve the spirit of their high mountain homeland. An evening with “Hojarasca” suspends time and transports one to the realm where music ebbs and flows with the pulse of the cosmos.

Formed in 2007 in the artistically rich province of Antioquia in Colombia “Hojarasca” explores the space between tradition and innovation utilizing prehispanic instruments and the great variety of rhythms in South American folklore. With a profound background in the interpretation of traditional songs “Hojarasca” creates a vibrant living soundscape placing their compositional work as a bridge between the past and future.

Hojarasca’s concert is part of the Bi-Cultural Road Show, featuring four visiting performing arts troupes: The Carpetbag Brigade, Nemcatacoa Teatro, Hojarasca, and Verbo-Bala. The Bi-Cultural Road Show expands the understanding and appreciation of Latin Culture beyond the Mexican Border by being a living display of creative co-existence. The four troupes have performed on Heritage Square and conducted stilt-walking, dance, music, and spoken word workshops during the month of July. The workshops will culminate in a live performance on Heritage Square featuring workshop participants and members of the four participating performance groups this Friday, July 26, at 7:00pm.

Hojarasca’s free concert is presented by Flagstaff Cultural Partners. For more information on the Bi-Cultural Road Show and “Hojarasca Andina”, visit http://www.culturalpartners.org/dios.htm or dial (928) 779-2300.
