Getting to the Bottom of Flagstaff's Bottomless Pit

Getting to the Bottom of Flagstaff's Bottomless Pit

Presented by Museum of Northern Arizona at Museum of Northern Arizona

 Presentation by Hydrologist Don Bills

The Bottomless Pit in east Flagstaff has been the subject of rumor and speculation for at least a century. Is it really bottomless? What created it? Is the Rio de Flag really sucked away into a giant whirlpool? Where does the water go?

These and many other questions will be addressed by Hydrologist Don Bills in a presentation at the Museum of Northern Arizona at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 23.

The talk will center on geology, but also will explore the Bottomless Pit's colorful history as a tourist attraction and an attractive nuisance. Joining Bills will be the Museum's Director of Paleontology, Dr. David Gillette, with fossils from MNA's collection.

The Museum of Northern Arizona is at 3101 N. Fort Valley Road in Flagstaff. The event is free. Cash bar.
