Downtown Friday Nights

at Heritage Square

On Friday, Aug. 16 from 6-7pm, hear the rhythmic, upbeat tunes with great lyrics by Bon Fiction. They have been playing locally since 2012. They play a mix of recognizable acoustic rock covers (Jack White, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, to name a few) and originals.

Then, from 7 to 8 p.m., join seasoned actors as they perform in captivating short, comic plays by local and locally connected playwrights in Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff. This free, all-ages event is part of the Summer Nights on the Square.

Hosted by Falstaff (Tony Sutera), Falstaff returns for three whacky plays on relationships. Watch as old wounds among movie theater employees are rubbed with popcorn salt in "Ice Cold Refills" (Seth Muller), go on the journey of a husband-and-wife traffic stop gone wrong in Seth Freeman's "The High Road" and eavesdrop on a woman's conversation with her own brain in "Head Space" by Patty Petelin. The three plays on Aug. 16 are directed by Vicki Thompson.

These special presentations of the Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase come shortly before the 2013 Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase, where seven plays are selected as part of a contest. The winners of the contest will be officially announced at the Aug. 9 event. This year's showcase takes place Aug. 30 and 31 at Theatrikos. Learn more at www.northernazplaywriting.org.
