The Singing Quilter in Concert

at Coconino Center for the Arts

Flagstaff Cultural Partners presents Cathy Miller: The Singing Quilter in concert on Friday, June 14 at 7:00pm; doors will open at 6:30pm. The concert will take place at the Coconino Center for the Arts in conjunction with the Four Corners Quilt Exhibition.

Cathy Miller, known as “The Singing Quilter,” is a Canadian quilter and folksinger from Victoria British Columbia. Since 2000, she and her musician husband John Bunge (a former member of The Gumboots from Yellowknife) have toured a program of songs, stories and quilts to guilds and quilting events across North America, Australia and New Zealand, the UK, France and Germany. They have performed at over 700 quilting events for more than 60,000 quilters. To date Cathy has released five CDs of songs about quilting and a book of her songs and stories. The songs range from the historical, through the poignant, to the drop-dead funny!

The Singing Quilter will perform in conjunction with the Four Corners Quilt Exhibition. The Four Corners unifies the cultures and territories of the southwestern United States, similar to the four corners of a quilt joining together layers of fabric. Quilts were considered a treasured commodity on the frontier, and throughout history different cultures have adopted the quilt as a form of utility and expression. Four Corners Quilt Exhibition is a study of how quilters choose to manipulate historic as well as modern techniques for a contemporary audience. The exhibition will run Tuesdays-Saturdays, June 11- July 20 at the Coconino Center for the Arts, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 8 from 6:00-8:00pm.
