The band was first organized in 1992. The band has provided free, public concerts since 1994, and expects to continue the concerts for the foreseeable future.

Ballet Folklórico de Colores is a community, non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to promote and preserve traditional Mexican folk dance, a unique art form that represents a piece of the cultural heritage of Flagstaff’s Latino population. The purpose of the organization is to educate the children of the Flagstaff community in cultural dance. To provide information relative to cultural dance to the members through: history and geography of each region of Mexico to be performed, performances by club members in the community, and speakers from the community on different regions of Mexico.
