Timber Harvesting and Wildfire Preparedness Open House

Timber Harvesting and Wildfire Preparedness Open House

Presented by Greater Flagstaff Forests Partnership at Aquaplex

As the pace and scale of forest restoration efforts increase, this is an opportunity for the community to learn about timber harvesting methods that will occur on local projects, such as the Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project and the Four Forest Restoration Initiative, and the measures taken by professionals to reduce the risk of severe wildfires in our forests.

On Saturday, May 6th from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Forestry and fire staff from the US Forest Service, City of Flagstaff, Arizona State and many other partners will be on-hand at The Aquaplex to discuss current and planned thinning operations. Invited exhibitors include: NAU’s Logging Sports Team and Louie the Lumberjack, Smokey Bear, real woods loggers and fire fighters with their logging equipment and fire trucks. Kids activities and refreshments will be provided.

Residents will also have the opportunity to gain valuable insight on how to protect their homes, property, and family from wildfire. This event is sponsored by the Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network and is held in conjunction with the National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day.
