OPIA is Dark Sky Aerial's debut aerial theatre performance.  “Opia” launches Friday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3:30 p.m. at Wiseman Aviation at Pulliam Airport, 2650 W. OPIA is a walking performance in which audience members will go on a physical journey.  Each of the five storied vignettes in OPIA will take place in different locations around the airplane hanger.  The audience will be led on a guided journey of this cutting edge aerial theatre show that explores the theme of vulnerability.  The definition of OPIA is the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable—their pupils glittering, bottomless and opaque—as if you were peering through a hole in the door of a house, able to tell that there’s someone standing there, but unable to tell if you’re looking in or looking out.  Using aerial harness dance, rope, vertical pole, silks and aerial dance loops, along with a fusion of visual art, spoken word and modern dance movement, OPIA will be a journey into strange and familiar recesses of the human experience.
