Making Waves: Rebirth of the Golden Rule

“Making Waves: Rebirth of the Golden Rule” is an award-winning documentary that tells the remarkable story of how retired Navy Captain turned peace activist Albert Bigelow and his crew of three dared to sail a small wooden boat into the US nuclear testing zone in the Marshall Islands—risking their lives to alert the world to the devastating effects of radiation on people and the planet. When the crew was arrested and jailed in Honolulu, public outcry for their release led to the Limited Test Ban Treaty, and directly inspired others to take up similar voyages, such as Greenpeace. Now restored by Veterans for Peace, this historic peace boat is on a new voyage to promote worldwide nuclear disarmament and support the UN Nuclear Ban Treaty. The Golden Rule is preparing to re-create the original voyage by sailing to Hawaii this spring, and then on to the Marshall Islands, Guam, and Japan!

Golden Rule Project Manager Helen Jaccard and film producer Wendy Rogan will be on hand for a Q & A session following the screening.  Ms. Jaccard will also speak at a special event on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 1:00-3:00 p.m at Firecreek Coffee House, with local activists and artists who will lead a discussion about the history and impact of uranium mining on the Colorado Plateau.  Featuring Klee Benally, Davona Blackhorse, Jerrel Singer, and Chip Thomas.
