Livestreamed September 17th at 11am on the Museum of Northern Arizona Facebook page The McDougall Herbarium contains a treasure trove of botanical specimens collected over the past 100 years, including some that had been picked but not processed.
Since 2016 botanist Kirstin Phillips has gone through more than 4,300 backlogged specimens, including many originally collected by Benjamin Wetherill in the 1920s and Alfred Whiting in the 1930s and 1940s. In this livestreamed presentation she’ll share some of the fascinating findings, including rare plants and ethnobotanical notes. The project, which was funded by a Museums for America grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, concludes at the end of this month.
