Antigone

With dance, music, and lively energy, they bring the ancient Greek text of Antigone to life. This is Greek tragedy like you’ve never seen before. This show is directed by FALA’s new theater instructor, Jovan Rameau, an accomplished actor with a MFA from Harvard’s theater program with assistance from Jean-Anne Foley. The show debuts on the 18th of December and runs through the 19th at Coconino Center of the Arts. Staring seniors Hannah Staudinger and Diego Toledo in the lead roles of Antigone and Creon, the show explores the strength of ties between family, and dives deep into the effect that power has on humankind. Fans of theater and the arts will enjoy the seamless blending of different arts and media that make this show a whole. “Antigone is a beautiful story, and despite the fact that its setting is ancient Greece, the story and the feeling of the characters are timeless,” says junior student, Gabrielle Neilson.

FALA’s Advanced Acting is a group of sophomores, juniors, and seniors that have a deep passion for the arts, and work very hard at their craft. For many of the actors, Antigone is their first exploration in classical theater, and has been a learning experience for the whole cast. “Taking this on has brought our whole class closer as we dive into the unknown world of Greek theater” says senior Tia Stephens, “We have blended our background of experimental theater and dance into this production to breath a new life into the play, which has been really exciting”. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the show will begin at 7:00pm.
