Afro-Brazilian Show with Special Guests Mestres Cabello and Tisza

Northern Arizona University (NAU) and the NAU Capoeira Club welcomes Capoeiristas and Brazilian percussionists Mestre Cabello Caobijuba' and Mestre Tisza Coelho for an explosive night of Capoeira, Batukada, and Samba. Mestres Cabello and Tisza will be joined by Capoeira Amizade Flagstaff and the NAU Capoeira Club. This will be an electrifying performance you don't want to miss! About Cabello and Tisza:

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Tisza began Capoeira in 1981 with Mestre Garrincha. In 1982 she started performing with folkloric groups. Tisza was part of the first female group in Brazil to perform at the National Capoeira Meeting in Rio de Janeiro (1984). It was the first time in world history that Capoeira Masters had seen 30 women together doing everything in Capoeira: music, games , drums, and Maculele.

Tisza started teaching Capoeira in 1987 while she was studying pedagogy. In 1991, Tisza moved to Europe where she lived in Paris and later Amsterdam to teach Capoeira. During her time in Europe, she travelled and performed in France, Italy, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Portugal and Czechoslovakia. In 1992 she did the first Capoeira workshop in Bratislava, Slovakia, introducing Capoeira to the country for the first time at the National Dance and Theatre School. In 1993 Tisza moved to Boston (USA) and started teaching at MIT University (Cambridge,
MA). In August of 1994 she decided to move to NYC and practice Capoeira Angola with Mestre João Grande.

In the world of Capoeira Mestre Tisza is considered one of the few of the 1st generation of Capoeira women in Brazil and has dedicated her whole life to work with Capoeira. She is an inspiration to all Capoeristas around the world.

Born in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil, Cabello keeps the tradition of his ancestors alive by dedicating his life to the rhythms, instruments, songs and dances of the Afro-Brazilian culture.

Cabello has been practicing Capoeira since 1980’s performing and teaching in the USA since 1990. He is a professional capoeirista with 27 years' experience. He studies Afro-Brazilian rhythms and dance as a disciple of Professora Emilia Biancardi and master drummer Jorge Alabê, and participates in Brazil at traditional gatherings, encounters and spontaneous festivals, besides teaching and performing in Bahia, New York and abroad.

Since 1990 cabello has travel with Capoeira and Music of Brasil through the whole planet from south and North America, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania. He has performed with Cyro Baptista and his recent project “Beat the Donkey”, and the Batoto Yetu African dance company. He can also being seen in the world tour with Tamango as well performed in many dance troupes and capoeira groups all over the globe in the last 15 years.

Currently, Cabello Lives in Serra Grande Bahia, but he teaches and performs around the globe Capoeira Angola, Maculelê, samba, Brazilian Percussion and Batucadas with several capoeira groups and with his performances ensembles: Korimbata’Samba(NYC) , Trovao da serra Batucada group(Bahia) and Centro de Capoeira Angola CaobiJuba’(Bahia Brasil)

In 2004 Cabello and Tisza Coelho started the project OuroVerde Cultural Farm and Centro Cultural Barracao D’Angola in Serra Grande Bahia Brasil where they support Brazilian culture creation, presentation, education, and preservation. They work to engage and deepen public appreciation and support for Capoeira , dance and Music. All of this while promoting the values of preserving the natural environment, assure bright/sustainable future for local children through artistic and social development, and promoting grass root, local community economic and sustainable development.
