Walnut Canyon National Monument

Walnut Canyon National Monument

See cliff dwellings of the prehistoric Sinagua people at this serene canyon 10 miles from Flagstaff. From the 700s until the 1400s, these inhabitants lived along the canyon rim and in alcove shelters deep within. A moderately difficult one mile trail leads visitors down into the canyon for up-close views of the dwellings, while an easier trail meanders around the rim. An on-site museum provides insight into the cliff dwellings and the fascinating Sinagua people.
