On Thinking is an exploration of humanity and thought, a play about everything and yet nothing at all. FALA’s advanced acting portray characters finding their way through life and death; love and hate; and a culmination of many other human emotions.
At the focus of this play is Hannah Arendt, German philosopher who lived through WWII in the US, having escaped Jewish persecution. Her works deal with the nature of power and the subjects of politics, direct democracy, authority, and totalitarianism. Her last writing, The Life of the Mind, focuses on the mental faculties of thinking and willing. The play On Thinking is an embodiment of thought experiments as well as a ponderment on the idea of the singularity, and how technology is affecting humanity. In Flagstaff’s 2013 Viola Awards, On Thinking was a finalist for the Best Storytelling award.
“A lot of creative minds have come together in order to produce such an awe-inspiring and odd production to not only better ourselves but to better our society through theatrical expression,” says actor Tanner Donahoe, who plays Hannah’s husband Heinrich Blücher.
In April, director Mike Levin and advanced acting will be taking On Thinking to Sacramento, CA, to perform for the Hannah Arendt Circle of Scholars at the UC Davis Humanities Institute.
