Join us at the beautiful Rogers Lake for a four-day immersion into the rich music and dance of Africa from July 27-30, 2017. Offering over 50 classes with 12 world-renowned artists from Guinea and Zimbabwe.
The Center for Indigenous Music and the Kissidugu Foundation are proud to present Camp Merveilles Flagstaff; an African dance, drum, and song camp with professional artists from across Africa. With classes for all ages and abilities, 12 world-renowned artists from Guinea and Zimbabwe will share and teach their art and traditions with more than 50 dance, drum and song classes; providing an invigorating four-day immersion into the rich music and dance of Africa from July 27-30, 2017.
This is the third year Camp Merveilles will be hosted in Flagstaff. Over the last two years, the camp has attracted over 100 students. The camp is a part of the NAU Artist in Residency program held at the Frontiere Property at Rogers Lake.
Fara Tolno is the founder, director, and choreographer for Kissidugu, a percussion and dance ensembles across the country and in Guinea. Other artists teaching at camp include Rujeko Dumbutshena of the Broadway hit Fela!, Fodé Bangoura , the lead drummer with the acclaimed ensembles “Les Merveilles de Guinée” and the national ballet of Guinea, “Les Ballets Africains,” Marietou Camara of Ballet Djoliba, and Les Ballet Africans and many others.
