Music and Dance Lessons and Classes

NAU Community Music and Dance Academy classes and lessons offer benefits that cannot be matched anywhere else in Flagstaff, and our private lesson prices are among the most competitive in town. Academy students perform in state-of-the-art performance halls and have opportunities to study privately and in group settings with Flagstaff’s best music and dance teachers. Our teachers include NAU School of Music faculty, as well as teachers who are supervised by faculty in their lesson teaching.

ALL INSTRUMENTS: Private lessons are available for wind, string, percussion, and brass instruments. Group lessons include our Junior Academy String Orchestra, Fiddle, Chamber groups, and more. Academy music students perform twice a year in  NAU Kitt Recital hall. Students have access to Steinway pianos for performance, practice, and accompanying. NAU faculty oversea Academy music programs in Suzuki strings, piano, voice, and dance for all ages.

SUZUKI STRINGS: Our Suzuki strings program is one of the best in Arizona and offers a combination of private lessons and group lessons through the Suzuki method. Suzuki students have opportunities to perform at various Flagstaff community events and festivals through the year. Our Suzuki program performs at Cornucopia, Hullabaloo, United Way Arts and Crafts Fair, Holiday Lights at Little America, Coconino County Fair, NAU Homecoming Parade and more. This year the Suzuki  Junior Academy Orchestra will be traveling to Carnegie Hall in New York City to perform.

DANCE: The NAU Academy is best known for our Royal Academy of Dance ballet program but students can also select classes such as jazz, hip-hop, modern or Afro-Latin Fusion. All NAU Academy dance students age 5 and older perform at the end of the year in Ardrey Memorial Auditorium. During the year our ballet students perform with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra in The Nutcracker Ballet. The ballet students also perform at the Flagstaff Festival of Science, and the Coconino County Fair. Our ballet students compete in and win national competitions, and go on to have professional careers in dance.

FLAGSTAFF YOUTH CHORALE: The NAU Academy is excited to announce that the Flagstaff Youth Chorale will join the NAU Community Music and Dance Academy starting in the Fall 2019 semester. We look forward to continuing the excellent Flagstaff Youth Chorale rehearsals, programs, performances, and partnerships. Having the Chorale at the Academy will offer new benefits to students such as end-of-semester performances in the new Kitt Recital Hall, Access to Steinway pianos for accompanying, and more.

ENROLLMENT

NAU Academy registration for private music lessons and all summer registrations are on a rolling basis. Dance registration deadline is the last week in August for the fall, and the first week of January for the spring. Music group registration deadline is the second week in September for the fall, and the fourth week in January for the spring.
